When they added snowmobile dealers showcasing the latest models, an estimated 10,000 attended. When snowmobiles arrived on the 1967 winter scene, the committee staged races and attendance shot up to 6,000. It was the “Marble Lake Tip-Up Carnival” and drew 500 people the first year. They had attended a Tip-Up festival in Hillsdale and decided to host one in Quincy. So, it’s 60 years, give or take, and it’s disappointing.Ī history provided by Lisa Woods, of the Quincy branch of Branch District Library, says two brothers from Quincy, Barney and Dan Stempien, started the tradition. Some local history records that Quincy Tip-Up started in the late 1950s. This was to be Tip-Up’s 60th anniversary celebration, she said. And repairs to the building are not complete. So far, they only had time to push the downed trees into a pile that happens to be the location of festival parking. Quincy Tip-Up Festival 2022 has been canceled, for two reasons.įirst, the pandemic continues to rage and second, an August storm raged through Tip-Up Island and made a mess.ĭanielle Badders, secretary of the Tip-Up committee, said many cottonwood trees on the property came down durning the storm and some onto the building. ![]()
